Outreach Services

Legal Advocacy / Family Court Support Program

Our local advocate is available to help guide you through family or criminal court. Whether you’re dealing with custody, access and support issues, or acting as witness in a criminal case, we can help.
If you’ve experienced domestic abuse, a family court support worker can help you:

  • Understand the family and criminal court systems
  • Find a lawyer or access legal advice
  • Complete court papers and/or prepare evidence statements
  • Prepare personal safety plans for attending court
  • Get ready to testify
  • Access community services and programs (counseling, supervised access program, etc.)

We can also:

  • Attend court with you
  • Attend lawyer’s appointments with you
  • Liaise with Victim Witness Assistance Program when necessary

Services are free, tailored to your particular needs, and completely confidential: men, as well as women, can use the Family Court Support Program Worker. Those men who prefer not to receive service directly from Optimism Place will upon request be referred to Victim Services for assistance. Safe meeting sites are available throughout Perth County.
