January 2021 Donor Feature: Kim McCarthy

Updated: Jun 18

As I step into 2021 as a monthly donor to Optimism Place, I feel a deeper sense of purpose and understanding of my own journey. I’m an artist and art educator using my creative talents to express myself. In 2020, I built an e-commerce art business and expanded into wearable art and home decor items. A portion of the proceeds from ALL sales is donated to OP. More exciting products and art work will be launched for Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day. If you’d like to be one of the first to know about new offerings please visit kimmcc.com and sign up for my newsletter on the home page. My contributions to OP are a legacy project to honour a dear friend who passed away this past year. In her early adult life, a women’s shelter probably saved her life! It provided her and her two young children a safe place to land and regroup. She went on to acquire two university degrees, raise her children and break a cycle of domestic violence. I was always in awe of her strength, perseverance and desire for something better! Providing assistance to others in her name helps pay that forward. I know first hand the amount of courage necessary to leave an unhealthy relationship and rewrite a sense of one’s future. Support is an essential component during that process. The tribe of angels that staff Optimism Place provide an invaluable resource in this wonderful community of Stratford. If I can make a bit of a difference assisting that mission then my heart is full. Kim contributes a percentage of every sale directly to Optimism Place.
